19-year-old facing felony charges after fleeing police at speeds over 100 MPH

EAGAN, MINNESOTA - At around 3:30 AM on Tuesday, August 8, 2023, an officer with the Eagan Police Department was doing a routine patrol in a marked squad car when they observed a vehicle traveling at a high rate of speed, in excess of 100 MPH, in the area of southbound Cedar Avenue near the Minnesota River Bridge. The officer caught up to the suspect car and initiated their emergency lights and siren in an attempt to conduct a traffic stop on the vehicle on Highway 13 near River Hills Drive in Burnsville, Minnesota. The vehicle failed to stop and attempted to flee the police, at which point, additional officers joined the pursuit of this vehicle.

According to the criminal complaint, the vehicle ended up stopping on River Hills Drive in Burnsville, Minnesota where police identified the driver of the vehicle as 19-year-old Jasmine Castellanos. After being given her Miranda rights, Ms. Castellanos admitted she was the driver of the vehicle and that she fled the police because she didn't have a valid driver's license. The criminal complaint also states that passengers in the car also confirmed that Ms. Castellanos was also the driver, with video recording from the front passenger recording part of the chase. It was from this video police were also able to hear a male voice telling Castellanos on multiple occasions to stop the vehicle during the ongoing pursuit.

Jasmine Castellanos was officially charged on August 8th with a Felony Fleeing a Peace Officer in a Motor Vehicle, which comes with a maximum sentence of 0-3 years plus 1 day and/or a fine of $1,500 to $5,000.
