Minneapolis Police Officer shot Overnight: Four suspects apprehended
MINNEAPOLIS, MINNESOTA - Just after 9 PM on Friday, August 11th, a Minneapolis Police Officer was shot in the line of duty driving an undercover squad in the area of the 4300 block of Colfax Avenue N in Minneapolis, Minnesota. The Minneapolis Police Department says the Officer was transported to North Memorial Hospital with a nonlife-threatening gunshot wound.
Police say that preliminary information indicates that the Officer was following a vehicle that had previously fled from Brooklyn Park Police Department the day before. The vehicle also matched the description of a vehicle involved in a robbery in North Minneapolis that had fled from Minneapolis Police. The Officer was shot at while driving on Colfax, with the gunshot allegedly fired from the suspect vehicle. Minneapolis Police found the suspect vehicle shortly thereafter the shooting. The suspect vehicle ended up fleeing from the police and crashed. Four occupants fled from the vehicle and all four were eventually found and taken into custody.
Minneapolis Police Department Chief Brian O’Hara said,
This incident underscores the incredible courage and bravery that all of our officers display as they don the MPD uniform in defense of our city. MPD officers put their lives on the line every day to protect each and every community member, not knowing what each day of that service may bring. We are extremely thankful and relieved that this officer is still with us. Thanks to the work of his MPD and law enforcement family, we have protected one of our own and we’ve taken four more potentially dangerous criminals off the street.
