Annual summer water restrictions return for Apple Valley
APPLE VALLEY, MINNESOTA - The City of Apple Valley would like to remind residents that beginning on May 1, 2023, the summer water restrictions have returned across the area in an effort to help enhance water conservation and environmental stewardship as part of state regulations. These restrictions will continue through September 30, 2023.
Under these water restrictions, watering of lawns will only be permitted before 11 AM and after 6 PM in order to restrict water waste through evaporation during the hottest parts of the day. Irresponsible watering habits can also cause runoff, which also wastes water and can also lead to an increase of pollutants running off into our sewers, streams, and lakes. These restrictions are for in-ground irrigation systems, mechanical sprinklers, and any unattended hoses. These restrictions will be enforced for all residents of Apple Valley, including those who use city water, private well water, or those who irrigate through the use of lakes and ponds.
These restrictions do not apply to hand watering of plants, children's water toys when a child is actively using them, or non-irrigation water, for example when washing your car. Exceptions are also in place for new sod that was laid and trees that were just planted.
The City of Apple Valley also recommends not watering your yards every day and also not watering when it is windy.
