UPDATED: Lakeville Police Department Investigates Suspected Homicide at Amazon Fulfillment Center

According to the Hennepin County Medical Examiner, the name of the victim who died in the shooting at the Lakeville Amazon Fulfillment Center is 22-year-old Ahmed Ibrahim Cariif from Faribault, Minnesota. The Medical Examiner says the cause of death was from a gunshot wound to the chest.

LAKEVILLE, MINNESOTA— According to the Lakeville Police Department, in the early hours of Saturday, June 29, 2024, officers with the Lakeville Police Department were called to the Amazon Fulfillment Center located at 9800 217th Street West in Lakeville, Minnesota, for a report of an altercation in the parking lot. Officers arrived at the scene shortly after 4:00 a.m. to find an adult male with a suspected gunshot wound.

Despite the lifesaving efforts by Lakeville Police, Lakeville Fire Department, and Allina EMS, the male victim was pronounced dead at the scene. The identity of the victim has not yet been released, pending notification of next of kin and further investigation by the Hennepin County Medical Examiner’s Office, which will also determine the cause and manner of death.

A second male, aged 24, was apprehended near the victim by responding officers. He remains in custody as investigators work to unravel the details of the incident. Preliminary information suggests the altercation was confined to these two individuals. The police are currently examining the relationship between the two men and their connection to the Amazon Fulfillment Center.

A firearm was recovered at the scene, and authorities have stated that there is no known threat to the public stemming from this incident. The investigation is being led by the Lakeville Police Department’s Investigative and Crime Scene Units, with support from the Dakota County Sheriff’s Office Crime Scene Unit.
