ROSEMOUNT, MINNESOTA — New details have emerged regarding a stolen vehicle incident that began in Rosemount and led to a multi-city pursuit on New Year’s Eve.
At approximately 4:16 p.m. on Tuesday, December 31, 2024, Rosemount officers were dispatched to an apartment complex at 14504 Abbeyfield Avenue in Rosemount, Minnesota. A pizza delivery driver reported that their vehicle, an SUV, was stolen while they were inside the building making a delivery. The driver’s cell phone was inside the stolen vehicle, prompting them to borrow a bystander’s phone to call 911.
According to the Rosemount Chief of Police, Mikael Dahlstrom, Rosemount officers quickly canvassed the area for the stolen vehicle while another officer met with the victim to review surveillance footage. At around 4:30 p.m., a Minnesota State Trooper spotted a vehicle matching the description traveling west on County Road 42 from Flagstaff Avenue in Apple Valley, Minnesota. Apple Valley police attempted to stop the vehicle near 147th Street West and Glazier Avenue, but the vehicle fled. Apple Valley officers quickly terminated the pursuit for safety reasons. The vehicle then fled northbound on Cedar Avenue. While officers did not pursue it directly, a State Patrol helicopter tracked the vehicle as it moved through Eagan, Minnesota, and into Bloomington, Minnesota.
Efforts to stop the vehicle using tire deflation devices, or “stop sticks,” were unsuccessful. The pursuit ended when the vehicle stopped in the parking lot of the Microtel Inn & Suites at 801 78th Street East in Bloomington. The suspect was later identified as a 30-year-old woman from Richfield, Minnesota.
The Chief of Police confirmed that the woman was arrested at the scene and initially transported to Southdale Hospital before being released and booked at the Dakota County Jail in Hastings, Minnesota. She now faces several charges, including:
Felony Theft of a Motor Vehicle
Felony Fleeing a Peace Officer in a Motor Vehicle
Outstanding warrants in Hennepin County for gross misdemeanor drug charges and misdemeanor theft.
Rosemount Chief of Police Mikael Dahlstrom expressed their gratitude to the Minnesota State Patrol, Apple Valley Police, and Bloomington Police for their assistance in recovering the vehicle and ensuring the victim’s property was returned promptly.
