Twin Cities Officers Honor Fallen Heroes During National Police Week in Washington, D.C.
TWIN CITIES, MINNESOTA—Police officers from across the Twin Cities traveled to the nation’s capital last week to participate in National Police Week, a solemn tribute to law enforcement officers who have died in the line of duty. Five Minnesotans whose lives and service left an indelible mark on their communities were among those honored at the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial.
This year’s remembrance included Burnsville Police Officers Paul Elmstrand and Matthew Ruge, Minneapolis Police Officer Jamal Mitchell, Red Lake Police Officer Jesse Branch, and National Park Service Officer Kevin Grossheim, who served at Voyageurs National Park.
Thousands gathered in Washington, D.C., throughout the week to participate in ceremonies, vigils, and moments of reflection. The annual observance draws law enforcement professionals, families, and supporters from across the country to honor those who made the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty.
The Twin Cities delegation stood united, paying tribute to their fallen brothers and sisters with reverence and pride. For many, the experience offered a powerful reminder of the risks officers take every day and the importance of remembering those who gave their lives serving their communities.
Special thanks go to the Minnesota Fraternal Order of Police for their ongoing commitment to honoring Minnesota’s law enforcement community and for allowing us to use their videos to create the touching tribute video above highlighting the week’s events. National Police Week is a time of remembrance and unity, bringing together those who continue to serve, those who mourn, and those who are committed to keeping the memories of the fallen alive.
