UPDATED STORY - APPLE VALLEY, MINNESOTA - A motorcyclist was seriously injured Sunday night, June 1, 2025, in a multi-vehicle crash on southbound Cedar Avenue near 140th Street, according to a crash report released by the Minnesota Department of Public Safety.
The crash occurred around 9:30 p.m. and involved five vehicles, including a blue 2023 Yamaha MT09 motorcycle driven by a man from Rosemount. According to the crash report from the Minnesota State Patrol, the motorcyclist was traveling at a high rate of speed and collided with three vehicles: a 2018 Toyota Avalon, a 2023 Honda Accord, and a 2016 Chevrolet Cruze — all of which were slowing down in response to a stalled 2005 Honda Pilot that was stopped in a traffic lane ahead. The stalled vehicle, driven by a man from Brooklyn Park, was not struck in the crash.
After striking the vehicles, the motorcyclist was ejected from the bike and sustained a serious injury to his lower leg. He was transported by Allina EMS ground ambulance to Hennepin County Medical Center. The rider was wearing a DOT-compliant full-face helmet at the time of the crash. The preliminary investigation by Apple Valley Police and the Minnesota State Patrol suggests that speed and suspected alcohol use were contributing factors in the crash. A blood test was taken from the motorcyclist, and the results are pending.
The southbound lanes of Cedar Avenue were closed at McAndrews Road for approximately 45 minutes while crews cleared the scene and investigators conducted accident reconstruction. The road reopened around 10:15 p.m.
Apple Valley Police, the Apple Valley Fire Department, Allina Health EMS, and the Minnesota State Patrol all responded to the scene.
Officials with the Apple Valley Police Department report this remains an active investigation.
