Collision Involving Blue Line Train and Vehicle in Bloomington, MN

BLOOMINGTON, MINNESOTA - On Monday, May 13, 2024, at approximately 3:15 p.m., Metro Transit Police responded to reports of a collision between a northbound Blue Line train and a passenger vehicle at the intersection of 34th Avenue South and I-494 in Bloomington, Minnesota.
According to the Metro Transit Police, no injuries were reported among the passengers aboard the train. However, the driver of the passenger vehicle sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was promptly transported to an area hospital for further evaluation and medical care. It appears the two passengers in the vehicle did not sustain any injuries either.
The Metro Transit Police state that an initial examination of surveillance footage from the scene suggests that the driver may have attempted to turn against a red traffic signal. This finding underscores the importance of adhering to traffic regulations, particularly at intersections where such infractions can lead to dangerous consequences. As of now, the investigation into the incident remains ongoing. Metro Transit Police have informed us that no citations have been issued due to the crash.
