Police Respond to Incident at Kelley Park in Apple Valley

APPLE VALLEY, MINNESOTA—Police responded to a reported assault/fight involving a large group late Thursday night at Kelley Park, which prompted a swift response and citations.
According to Apple Valley Police, at approximately 10:16 p.m. on May 8, Apple Valley officers were dispatched to Kelley Park following a 911 call reporting an active assault/fight. It was reported that there was a group of approximately 15 Somali males who were seen surrounding and assaulting an individual who was on the ground.
As officers approached the area, the group began to disperse on foot and in vehicles, heading in multiple directions. Initial attempts to locate the individuals were unsuccessful. Eventually, three males who were involved in the altercation and had fled across the street and entered a parked vehicle near Foliage Avenue and Florist Circle were found.
Officers located a dark-colored passenger car under a streetlight and observed three individuals inside who appeared to be trying to avoid detection. The driver, identified as an 18-year-old from Burnsville, was reportedly out of breath and sweating. The two passengers in the vehicle were identified as an 18-year-old from Savage, with a visible cut on his cheek, and a 20-year-old from Burnsville.
All three individuals were cited for violating a city ordinance prohibiting presence in the park after hours. They were issued citations and released at the scene.
The incident remains under investigation, and authorities have not released any further details regarding the individual reportedly assaulted. No arrests related to the assault itself have been announced at this time.
Teen Critically Injured in Apple Valley Park Shooting After Late-Night Altercation
Two days after this incident, an 18-year-old male was in critical condition after a violent altercation at Kelley Park in Apple Valley, Minnesota, escalated into gunfire early Saturday morning, May 10, 2025.
According to the Apple Valley Police Department, officers were dispatched around 12:40 a.m. to the 6800 block of Fortino Street following reports of a weapons-related incident at Kelley Park. Witnesses reported a group fight near the park that was followed by multiple gunshots. The individuals involved fled the area in several vehicles before officers arrived.
