Inver Grove Heights Fatal Apartment Fire

INVER GROVE HEIGHTS, MINNESOTA – A person has died following a structure fire at an apartment building in Inver Grove Heights early Sunday afternoon, May 11, 2025.

According to a press release from the Inver Grove Heights Fire Department, fire crews from Inver Grove Heights and South Metro Fire were dispatched just after noon to report a fire at the Lake Cove Village Apartments complex located off Babcock Trail. Upon arrival, firefighters encountered zero visibility and a working fire in one of the apartment units.

During a search of the affected apartment, firefighters located a victim inside. The individual was treated at the scene and transported by MHealth Ambulance to a hospital, where they were later pronounced dead. The identity of the deceased has not yet been released pending family notification.

No other injuries were reported, and officials confirmed the fire damage was confined to the single apartment unit.

Authorities say the fire does not appear to be intentional. The cause remains under investigation by the Minnesota State Fire Marshal’s Division, with support from the Inver Grove Heights Fire Marshal and Fire Inspector.
