Minnesota Officials Warn Against Consuming Diamond Shruumz Mushroom-based Microdose Chocolates and Candies
ST PAUL, MINNESOTA — The Minnesota Department of Agriculture (MDA) and the Minnesota Department of Health (MDH), in collaboration with the Centers for Disease Control (CDC), the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), America’s Poison Centers, and various other state and local partners, have issued a strong warning against the consumption of Diamond Shruumz brand chocolate bars, cones, and gummies. These products, marketed as containing a proprietary blend of mushrooms, have been linked to severe acute illnesses across multiple states.
Currently, there have been 26 reported cases of illness spanning 16 states, including Alabama, Arizona, California, Indiana, Kentucky, Maryland, Minnesota, Missouri, Montana, Nevada, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, and Tennessee. Minnesota has reported one case that required emergency medical attention. Of the 26 affected individuals, 25 sought medical care, and 16 were hospitalized. Fortunately, no fatalities have been reported.
The symptoms experienced by those who consumed Diamond Shruumz products are severe and varied, including seizures, loss of consciousness, confusion, sleepiness, agitation, abnormal heart rates, changes in blood pressure, nausea, and vomiting.
Diamond Shruumz products are available for purchase online and at various retail locations nationwide, including smoke and vape shops or establishments selling hemp-derived or CBD products. In light of the ongoing investigation, Minnesota officials urge residents to refrain from buying, eating, selling, or serving Diamond Shruumz chocolate bars, cones, or gummies. Retailers are advised to halt sales and distribution of these products and await further instructions from the FDA.
Individuals who experience illness after consuming these products are advised to seek immediate medical attention. They can also contact the Minnesota Regional Poison Center at 800-222-1222 to report their symptoms and receive guidance. Callers must inform Poison Control if they have recently consumed Diamond Shruumz products.
