Accepting Applications for Election Judges in Burnsville, MN

BURNSVILLE, MINNESOTA - The City of Burnsville is accepting applications for Election Judges for the upcoming Tuesday, August 13th primary and Tuesday, November 5th general election. An Election Judge is a paid position, and the pay range is $12 to $15 an hour, including training.

According to the City of Burnsville, Election Judges are essential in voting. Once trained, election judges serve voters at the various polling locations across the city by administering election procedures and ensuring every voter's rights are protected.

The press release states the following are some of the duties that election judges are tasked with:

  • Managing a polling place (Co-Chair)

  • Greeting voters, directing traffic, and ensuring people are in the correct precinct

  • Signing in registered and non-registered voters

  • Providing and explaining ballots

  • Overseeing the ballot counter and handing out "I Voted" stickers

  • Setting up and closing down polling places

  • Certifying polling place results

To qualify to be an Election Judge, you must attend training and meet the following qualifications:

  • Eligible to vote in the State of Minnesota

  • Must be 18 years or older (student judges must be 16-17 years old)

  • Able to speak, read, and write in the English language

  • Cannot be a spouse, parent, child, or sibling of an Election Judge serving in the same precinct

  • Cannot be a candidate or the spouse, parent, child, sibling, or live in the same household as any candidate on the ballot in the same precinct

  • Must be able to attend training (every 2 years)

By law, employers must provide paid time off to serve as an Election Judge when given at least a 20-day written notice (some exceptions apply), according to the press release.
