Flooding is the leading cause of death in natural disasters in the United States with the exception of heat-related fatalities. In fact, according to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), the national 30-year average for flood deaths is 88.

The second weather phenomenon we want to talk about is lightning safety. Lightning kills around 20 or more people every year and injures hundreds more. That being said, most if not all deaths and injuries from lightning are almost completely avoidable.
