Trejean Curry Officially Sentenced Following 2021 Fatal Crash in Rosemount

ROSEMOUNT, MINNESOTA - The Dakota County Attorney's Office officially announced the sentencing for 28-year-old Trejean Derrel Curry of Minneapolis, Minnesota, who had pleaded guilty to one count of criminal vehicular homicide (gross negligence) back on Wednesday, January 3, 2024, in connection with the death of Reverand Dennis "Denny" Dempsey, a priest at the Burnsville, Minnesota Church of the Risen Savior. Curry was sentenced to five years of probation, ordered to serve 40 hours of community work service and serve a 150-day jail sentence that can be served in 30-day increments during his probation period, according to the press release from the Dakota County Attorney Kathy Keena.

According to Dakota County Attorney Kathy Keena, the sentence was not the outcome her office wanted. The final sentencing came after a plea from the state following disagreements in how the vehicle's speed was calculated in the crash reconstruction and a recommendation from the Dakota County Community Corrections Department for a decreased sentence from the typical Minnesota Sentencing Guidelines. According to the press release, based on these facts and following the approval of Father Dempsey's family, the sentence mentioned above was imposed.
