Large explosion-like sound heard in south Minneapolis - March 17, 2022

Between 12:30-1:00 AM on March 17, 2022, several people across the south side of Minneapolis, MN reported hearing a very loud explosion-like sound. It is not known just yet what was the cause of the explosion-like sound, but we are working to actively investigate the source and cause of this possible sound. Police reportedly have searched the area but haven’t found anything yet.

One theory is that a transformer might have blown. The latest outage map from Xcel Energy shows there was one reported outage that started around 12:44 AM on March 17th that is currently impacting one customer. The location is on the southwest side of the city.
