Water rescue at Lake Marion in Lakeville, Minnesota

LAKEVILLE, MINNESOTA - Around 4:15 PM on April 12, 2023, a call came into the Dakota County dispatch for a water rescue/boat stuck in the ice on Lake Marion in Lakeville, Minnesota. Multiple emergency personnel was called to the Lake Marion boat launch as a reported rowboat was stuck in the middle of the lake with three young teens in the boat surrounded by ice.

The Burnsville Fire Department, Lakeville Fire Department, ALF Ambulance, Lakeville Police Department, and the Dakota County Sheriff's Department were all paged out to the scene. Due to the ice on the water, emergency crews asked for a couple of airboats to be brought to the scene as they figured out how they were going to rescue the young men from the middle of the lake. The boat was said to have a motor, but it was not working. It was also reported the young men only had one paddle in the boat.

Once on scene, the Lakeville Fire Department launched their drone to survey the lake and find the boat on the lake. It was later determined after surveying the scene to launch the Lakeville Fire Department wave runner. Two Lakeville firefighters and the wave runner were sent out to check on the three individuals in the boat. Thankfully no injuries were reported among the three young teens in the rowboat. It was determined they will tie a rope and pull the teens in the rowboat back to the Lake Marion boat launch through the ice. It was a slow process, but they were able to get all parties involved back to the boat launch safe and sound.
