Apartment Fire in Eagan, Minnesota - April 18, 2022

Just after 4:15 PM this afternoon a call came out for an apartment fire in the 3300 block of Coachman Rd for an apartment fire at the Foxridge Estates apartments. A caller was reporting heavy black smoke coming out of the 3rd-floor of the apartment complex with a woman that was reported to still be inside the apartment. The caller said the smoke was too heavy for them to get her, so they evacuated.
The call initially was toned out as a 1st alarm structure fire with a response from Burnsville Engine 2, Eagan Chief 1, Eagan Engine 1, Eagan, Engine 2, and Eagan Ladder 4. That was upgraded to a second alarm about 3 minutes later when dispatch reported the caller saying the previously mentioned woman was still trapped in the apartment. That upgrade in mutual aid brought Mendota Heights Engine 11 and Ladder 10, Burnsville Chief, and Mendota Chief.
When crews arrived, a 360 was done with no smoke showing on four sides. They began accountability checks and continued to investigate. They confirmed a working structure fire at 4:25 PM and were making entry into the apartment. They took an offensive attack and quickly entered the building to extinguish the fire. Crews on the scene said they did not have an access point from the roof to the apartment, but it was stated that they did not believe the fire was in the roof. The first was reported to be knocked down by 4:27 PM they were continuing their primary search with nothing found. By 4:29 PM the primary search was complete, and no one else was found. Crews began to transition to ventilating the building. By 4:32 PM Eagan PD confirmed everyone was accounted for on floors 1 and 2. At 4:39 PM a secondary search was complete on floor 3 and it was also cleared.
At 4:46 PM the call was marked as okay and completed. At 4:40 PM the fire was marked as confirmed out. Just after 4:52 PM, they became to clear units from the scenes. All units were cleared of the scene by 5:31 PM. At 5:36 PM police on the scene made a request for emergency traffic and for medics to return to the scene. Officers were fighting with someone and a taser was deployed around 5:37 PM. Eagan Engine 2 and Battalion 3 were back en route to Coachman at 5:38 PM. Emergency traffic was cleared by 5:40 PM. We are unsure at this time if this was related to the fire call or not.
We are happy to report that the Eagan Fire Department Deputy Chief and Fire Marshall reports that the lady who was said to be in the apartment was able to get herself out prior to the Fire Department arriving and she sustained no injuries. The quick response of fire crews and offensive attack on the fire was likely directly linked to the damage of this fire being isolated to one apartment with no injuries being reported.
