Body Recovered from Mississippi River near Wakota Bridge

ST PAUL, MINNESOTA— According to officials with the St. Paul Police Department, a witness reported seeing a body in the Mississippi River near the Wabasha Bridge at approximately 10:18 AM on the morning of Friday, June 28, 2024. Officers with the St. Paul Police Department quickly responded and confirmed the sighting of a body in the rapidly moving river. Unfortunately, visual contact was lost near the Highway 52 bridge.

Due to the challenging river conditions, the Ramsey County authorities requested assistance from Dakota County to continue the search downstream from the Highway 52 bridge. A collaborative effort was initiated involving Dakota County, the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources (MN DNR), and the Inver Grove Fire Department. Authorities were also using drones to help survey the area.

After an extensive search, the body was found near the Wakota Bridge around 11:40 AM. Authorities tell us the body was that of an adult female who was transported to the Castaway Marina in Inver Grove Heights, Minnesota. The body was then handed over to the Ramsey County Sheriff’s Office and the Ramsey County Medical Examiner’s Office for further investigation. The identity of the deceased and the circumstances surrounding her death are currently under investigation, including how they ended up in the water.

Further details will be released as the investigation progresses. The authorities have urged anyone with information about this incident to come forward and assist in the ongoing investigation.
