Injury Accident in Lakeville the Result of a Wrong-Way and Suspected Impaired Driver

LAKEVILLE, MINNESOTA – A serious accident occurred near the intersection of Cedar Avenue and 202nd Street West at approximately 9:15 PM on Friday, August 23rd, 2024. According to the Lakeville Police Department, the crash was caused by a wrong-way driver driving northbound in the southbound lanes of Cedar Avenue and colliding with a vehicle traveling southbound on Cedar Avenue. The collision left one male trapped inside his vehicle, requiring extrication by the Lakeville Fire Department.

According to the Lakeville Police, the wrong-way driver was suspected to be impaired and was arrested at the scene of the crash and was later taken to the Dakota County Jail. He is being held on charges of Criminal Vehicular Operation - substantial bodily harm. This subject is expected to have his first appearance today at noon in Hastings, Minnesota. Following his first appearance and the official charges being read, we will release their name and additional information on their charges once they are available.

While the main collision involved just two vehicles, five total vehicles sustained damage in the crash. According to the Lakeville Police Department, the suspected impaired driver was not injured in the crash. The victim that they hit was transported to Hennepin County Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries.

Fire units were cleared the scene around 10:04 PM.
