Eagan Theft: $1,202.74 in Merchandise Stolen
EAGAN, MINNESOTA - On Thursday, November 30, 2023, Officers with the Eagan Police Department were called for a theft report at the Target in Eagan, Minnesota, around 6:11 PM.
According to a criminal complaint released by the Dakota County Attorney's Office, it was reported that a white male had stolen around $1,200 worth of merchandise from the store. He was last seen leaving the area in a white SUV.
When Officers located a white SUV that matched the description of the vehicle seen leaving the store and conducted a traffic stop, which was driven by a female with the male suspect in the passenger seat, he was identified as Rubin Ornelas. According to the criminal complaint, Mr. Ornelas stated he went to the self-checkout and swiped a credit card, but it declined. He then pushed the cart full of merchandise out of the store without paying for it. Once in the parking lot, a theft prevention employee stopped him, and he abandoned the cart and left in the SUV.
The total loss in merchandise for Target was $1,202.74.
Rubin Ornelas was charged, per the criminal complaint, with Felony Attempted Theft, which comes with a 0 to 2.5-year sentence and/or a fine of $1,500 to $5,000.
