Suspect Arrested After High-Speed Chase Ends in Burnsville, Minnesota
Dakota County, Minnesota—On the evening of May 28, 2024, officers from the South St. Paul Police Department responded to a residence in the 200 block of Richmond Street West following a report of a violation of a Domestic Abuse No Contact Order (DANCO). The incident occurred around 8:30 PM, as officers responding to the report of the DANCO violation discovered the suspect actively violating the court order behind the residence.
Despite officers signaling the suspect to stop and activating emergency lights and sirens, the individual fled in a vehicle, leading to a high-speed pursuit. The chase proceeded onto I-494 Westbound and subsequently onto Southbound I-35E. During the pursuit, South St. Paul officers awaited the assistance of a Minnesota State Patrol helicopter to help track the fleeing vehicle. Unfortunately, the State Patrol was not available. Speeds during the chance ranged around 80-90 mph, according to scanner traffic.
The pursuit took a critical turn as the suspect approached County Road 11, where Burnsville Police Department units were strategically positioned to deploy stop sticks. The suspect, upon noticing the Burnsville police squads, made an abrupt exit onto County Road 11. At this point, the suspect's speed decreased sufficiently as it traveled southbound on County Road 11 from the exit ramp toward Palomino Road, allowing South St. Paul officers to safely perform a Pursuit Intervention Technique (PIT) maneuver. This maneuver successfully immobilized the suspect's vehicle in the right lanes of County Road 11 just before Palomino Road.
With the vehicle immobilized, assisting squads swiftly moved in, and the suspect was taken into custody without further incident. The apprehended individual, a 35-year-old male from St. Paul, was subsequently booked into Dakota County Jail. He faces charges of fleeing police in a motor vehicle, violating a Domestic Abuse No Contact Order, and several traffic-related offenses.
Chief of Police for the South St. Paul Police Department, Brian Wicke, expressed his gratitude to the Burnsville Police Department for their timely and well-coordinated assistance.
