Death Investigation Underway Following Fatal Shooting in South St. Paul

SOUTH ST PAUL, MINNESOTA—Authorities are investigating a fatal shooting that occurred Friday night in South St. Paul, leaving one man dead and another in custody.

According to a press release from the South St. Paul Police Department, officers responded to a report of a shooting around 8:50 p.m. on April 11 at a residence in the 700 block of 12th Avenue North. Upon arrival, officers discovered an adult male inside the home suffering from an apparent gunshot wound. The man was pronounced dead at the scene.

A 36-year-old man from Hudson, Wisconsin, was located at the scene and taken into custody. Investigators believe the shooting was an isolated incident and that the two individuals knew each other. Police also stated that there is no threat to the broader community. The South St. Paul Police Department is leading the investigation, with assistance from the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension. Investigators are working to determine the circumstances that led to the shooting and are collecting evidence that may clarify what transpired.

The identity of the deceased has not been released, pending notification of next of kin. The Hennepin County Medical Examiner’s Office will conduct an autopsy to confirm the cause of death.
