April 15th - April 21st Weekly Social Media Recap

TWIN CITIES - While we hope everyone who comes to Limitless Media for their local independent community news also follows us on Twitter, Facebook, and YouTube, we realize that not everyone has a profile with these platforms. To help fill the gap for those individuals who might not have a profile on any of these social media platforms, we have decided to start doing weekly recaps from posts we might do across these social media platforms. These posts often do not have a lot of information, so we often do not have enough to write up a full article on them, but they might be impactful enough in the community that residents should be aware of them.

We hope these weekly recaps will help further fill the gap in local news coverage across our communities!

We have seen several residents across the Twin Cities Metro asking about the low-flying helicopters and what they are doing. Well, the answer is mosquito control! The Metropolitan Mosquito Control District (MMCD) has been busy applying dry treatment to marshes and ponds with active mosquito larvae. According to the MMCD, the dry treatment has an active ingredient, Bti, formulated to control mosquito larvae. You can find a full list of the counties and cities crews work in here. According to the MMCD, this list is updated daily at 8 AM.

TWIN CITIES METRO—Here is a rough look at rainfall totals across the Twin Cities over the last 12 hours. The heaviest rain fell across the west Metro, where upwards of 1.50 to 1.80 inches have fallen so far. Across the rest of the region, around 0.65 to 1.50 inches fell, which was much needed!

With the MSP Airport sitting at 1.31 inches unofficially, there's a good chance we will break a daily rainfall record since the previous one was 1.04 inches in 2003. We were half an inch below normal on precipitation this month. This would put us well above normal, which is great to see! We were also 0.65 inches below normal for the year, but this would also bring us back above normal. The official total from the MSP Airport ended up being 1.33”, the new daily rainfall record for Tuesday, April 16, 2024.
