Investigation Into Red Oak Park Shooting Continues; Police Are Still Seeking the Public’s Assistance

BURNSVILLE, MINNESOTA - The Burnsville Police Department provided a new update today regarding the ongoing investigation into the August 30, 2024, shooting incident at Red Oak Park. The update emphasized that the investigation remains active and urged community members to come forward with any helpful information.

In collaboration with local, state, and federal partners, including the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms (ATF), Burnsville Police have conducted more than 50 interviews related to the shooting. The Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension (BCA) has processed numerous potential pieces of evidence as authorities work to identify the perpetrators.

Despite significant investigative efforts, some witnesses have been hesitant to share critical details, while others have cooperated, providing valuable leads. Police now believe the incident was a targeted attack aimed at individuals who were in the basketball court area when the shooting occurred. Several of these individuals are known to be associates of a local gang, raising concerns about gang-related violence in the community.

Police Chief Tanya Schwartz reiterated the need for public support in solving the case, encouraging anyone with relevant information, particularly those who were present at the basketball court and fled before officers arrived, to step forward. "Since this reckless shooting happened, our detectives and partner agencies have worked diligently to find those responsible and bring them to justice. The investigation continues to move forward, and evidence continues to be gathered from a variety of sources. We know members of the public have additional information that could assist this investigation, and we need them to come forward," Chief Schwartz said.

The incident left four individuals injured, with two victims recently released from the hospital. Another victim remains in rehabilitation at Hennepin County Medical Center (HCMC), while the condition of the fourth victim is currently unknown.

Authorities believe multiple suspects were involved in the shooting, and they are actively working to identify those responsible. Police encourage anyone with information, including home surveillance footage from the surrounding area, to contact Burnsville Detective Mitch Carlson at 952-641-1156.

In the meantime, Burnsville police have increased patrols in the Red Oak Park area to ensure public safety. Residents in need of assistance are advised to call 9-1-1.

As the investigation moves forward, police continue to urge the public to remain vigilant and assist law enforcement with any relevant information that may lead to the resolution of this case.
