Pursuit and Gunfire: Ramsey County Deputy Injured
SAINT PAUL, MINNESOTA - On Friday, March 1, 2024, law enforcement was in pursuit of a vehicle when shots were fired at a Ramsey County Sheriff Deputy this evening while they were in pursuit of a vehicle in the 900 block of Euclid Street in St Paul, Minnesota.
Details are limited at this time, but according to Sheriff Bob Fletcher of the Ramsey County Sheriff's Office, Ramsey County Deputy Joe Kill was hit by either shrapnel or by a bullet itself after it went through the hood of his car. Thankfully, the injuries were minor, and he will be okay. In an update from Sheriff Bob Fletcher, it is suspected that a possible bullet went between the strap in the vest and hit him in the collar bone. Deputy Joe Kill remains in the hospital, getting further treatment and x-rays, but is reported to be okay.
The suspect vehicle is described as a dark green or gray, older model Honda Accord. The license plate on the vehicle was MWK 141. The suspect was armed with a long rifle. Law enforcement stated if you see the vehicle, please call 911 immediately and don't approach the vehicle.
Just before midnight, officers with the St Paul Police Department found the suspect vehicle in the Dayton Bluff neighborhood on the east side of St Paul, Minnesota. Several law enforcement quickly surrounded the area and set up a perimeter.
This incident is still active and developing as of 12:15 AM on Saturday, March 2, 2024. Law enforcement is working on bringing in SWAT and their Bearcat to search the suspect vehicle. We will post additional updates as they are available.
