BURNSVILLE, MN: Major Incident closes I-35E at County Rd 11
UPDATE - 2:54 PM: I-35E northbound has been reopened.
Latest update - 3:00 PM:
Just after 12:00 PM on March 3, 2022, a multi-vehicle crash was reported on I-35E northbound just north of County Road 11. Via the camera and from reports from first responders arriving on the scene, CPR was in progress on the victim. Multiple vehicles were reported on the scene, but at this time it appears only two main vehicles were involved. A semi-truck and the other victim’s vehicle was a blue SUV. Early, unconfirmed reports say that the victim might have jumped in front of the semi. We are working to still confirm if this was in fact a suicide or not, but we can confirm there was at least one fatality.
Around 12:17 PM a second two-vehicle accident occurred and was spotted on MnDOT cameras. This second accident was reported as a second injury accident. It appears a gray/tan van was not paying to the back-up/slow traffic in front of it from northbound I-35E being closed and people slowly exiting the highway. That van ran into the rear end of another white van which sent the white van off into the middle median. The gray/tan van went off to the right side of the road. It is unknown at this time if there were in fact injuries with that second accident. You can see video of that secondary crash below in a Tweet by MN Safety. All vehicles though were being diverted off I-35E northbound at Exit 90 onto County Road 11 as emergency personnel investigated the possible suicide wreck further north.
The I-35E northbound was closed until about 2:54 PM, at which point the accident was cleared and the highway reopened.
We will update this story as more information is made available.
