Plane Crash on Mississippi River: Pilot Rescued Safely
INVER GROVE HEIGHTS, MINNESOTA - Just before 12:30 PM on Sunday, February 4, 2024, a call came in for a plane crash on the Mississippi River in Inver Grove Heights, Minnesota. Emergency personnel from South Metro and Inver Grove Heights Fire Departments, the Inver Grove Police Department, MHealth Fairview ambulance, and the sheriff all responded to the call.
According to a Facebook post from the Inver Grove Heights Fire Department, around 1:30 PM, a small water plane had flipped over on the river. The pilot safely got out of the plane and got out on the aircraft wing while they waited for the Inver Grove Heights Fire Department to pick them up by boat and transport them back to a nearby marina. The crash occurred near or just north of 102nd Street East on the Mississippi River. This location was just north of the River Grove Harbor. This location was updated just east of the Wipline Airport landing strip.
Per scanner traffic, emergency personnel had trouble finding ramps to put their boats into the water because several ramps/harbors were still full of ice. Details about what caused the water plane to flip over are limited, but will post updates as they become available.
