July 2024: A Series of Violent Shootings in Minneapolis, Minnesota

MINNEAPOLIS, MINNESOTA - As of July 18th, the city of Minneapolis has had four confirmed homicides in the city. Here is a list of some of the shootings that turned into homicides, information provided to us by the Minneapolis Police Department press releases:
July 7th: A 17-year-old was found shot in a vehicle near Dowling Ave N/Fremont Ave N; another person was also shot with non-life-threatening injuries. A 17-year-old victim died from gunshot injuries on July 12th. The Hennepin County Medical Examiner has identified that victim as Lonnaya I'zanay Warren-Loyd. It was determined her cause of death was homicide by multiple gunshot wounds.
July 8th: A 29-year-old was shot in the area of the 2000 block of Emerson Ave N. The victim died from gunshot injuries on July 12th.
July 14th: Multiple people were shot. A victim was found with life-threatening gunshot injuries on the 2500 block of Central Ave NE, and the victim later died. Two other gunshot victims were found in a vehicle in the area of 4th St SE/Central Ave with apparent non-life-threatening injuries. The Hennepin County Medical Examiner has identified the victim who died as 32-year-old Christopher Darnell Thurmond. His cause of death was homicide by multiple gunshot wounds.
July 15th: 6 people were shot in the area of Franklin Ave E between 16th Ave S and 17th Ave S. One victim was killed, and one victim had potentially life-threatening injuries. Police say an unruly crowd of over 20 people was at the scene, and the crowd had to be dispersed.
