Armed robbery out of Maplewood leads to two suspects being arrested in Eagan
Two are in custody following an initial armed robbery in Maplewood, Minnesota this afternoon lead to a manhunt in Eagan, Minnesota. Just after 1:30 PM, the victims contacted police to report that they were tracking their phone that was taken in an armed robbery earlier in the day in Maplewood, Minnesota. They reported that they had tracked the phone to the Eagan, Minnesota area. This information was relayed to the Eagan Police who sent several officers to then investigate. Details are limited at this time as an investigation into the events that occurred is ongoing, but Eagan police were able to find the vehicle that was reported to be involved in the armed robbery which then fled at a high rate of speed from the police around 1:35 PM.
After driving around for a brief period in the area of Cedar Ave and Nicols Rd, the two suspects eventually ended up stopping at the Peace Church parking lot in Eagan and fled north on foot towards the Aster House Apartments. Police quickly began setting up a perimeter in this area that included Cedar Ave, Diffley Rd, Nicols Rd, Glory Rd (which goes directly to the Peace Church), and several units posted at the Aster House Apartments. Eagan Police called in support from State Patrol Air Patrol, K9 units from neighboring departments, and drones were deployed to help with the search. Police also contacted public transit to be on the lookout for suspects as well.
Just after 1:45 PM, someone reported seeing one possible male suspect run across Cedar Ave towards the Metcalf school, so the perimeter was expanded west to include Metcalf Dr and Clark St. Residents in this area were then told to shelter in place for the time being. Just after 1:55 PM, police expanded the perimeter as a safety precaution to Cliff Rd and Cedar Ave, with additional units also posted at Slater Rd and Metcalf Dr. Around 2:10 PM, police with K9s began searching the treeline between Metcalf and the southbound ramp of Cedar Ave. One suspect was found in this treeline and was in custody. This was confirmed to be the victim that ran across Cedar and this suspect was positively identified by two people. The west perimeter was then broken down soon after. At 2:30 PM police continued the search for the second suspect.
Around 2:50 PM police spotted a backpack that matched the description of the one the suspects were said to have had on a balcony of a presumed empty apartment. Police were able to get collect this bag and it was confirmed to have a gun inside it. At 3:25 PM police were able to find the second suspect and he was arrested. The second suspect was found between Cedar and the apartment building with two phones on him.
