UPDATED: Lakeville Police Officer Involved in a Serious Crash Late Thursday Evening

LAKEVILLE, MINNESOTA— According to Lakeville Police Department officials, around 10 PM on Thursday, May 16, 2024, a marked Lakeville Police squad car was involved in a two-vehicle crash at Cedar Avenue and 205th Street in Lakeville, Minnesota.
According to the Minnesota State Patrol, a Ford Explorer Lakeville Police squad was traveling northbound on Cedar Avenue as a Toyota Corolla, traveling southbound on Cedar Avenue, was attempting to make a left turn onto 205th Street. The Toyota Corolla turned in front of the northbound Lakeville Police squad, with the squad striking the passenger side of the Toyota Corolla. Officials with the Lakeville Police Department reported the officer was not responding to a call for service and did not have lights or sirens activated at the time of the crash.
Lakeville Police Department Officials state at least one passenger in the Toyota Corolla was transported to the Hennepin County Medical Center with life-threatening injuries. The Minnesota State Patrol confirms this information, with their report stating it was a 31-year-old male from St Paul, Minnesota, who was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash. The driver of the Toyota, a 23-year-old male from Burnsville, and the other passenger of that vehicle, a 19-year-old male from Burnsville, were said to both have non-life-threatening injuries. It was also reported they were both wearing seat belts. The Minnesota State Patrol report shows the Lakeville Police Officer was not hurt in the crash. Alcohol was not suspected to be involved in this accident.
The Lakeville Police Department, Farmington Police Department, Lakeville Fire Department, Allina Ambulance, and Minnesota State Patrol all responded to this incident.
