Repeat Offender Commits Theft in West St Paul
WEST ST PAUL, MINNESOTA - Back on Monday, October 16, 2023, officers with the West St. Paul Police Department were called out to a retail store on the 2000 block of Robert Street for a report of theft.
According to the criminal complaint released by the Dakota County Attorney's Office, Marstyn Ryan Taft entered a store with an iPhone he was trying to sell. The store employee evaluated the iPhone, agreed to buy it, and gave Taft a $546 prepaid card. Taft wasn’t happy about the amount and asked for the phone back to check the storage on the phone. During this time, the employee was on the phone helping another customer. Taft then left the store with both the prepaid card and the iPhone and never returned to the store.
While the employee could identify Taft by his Minnesota ID card, he could not cancel the prepaid card they had given Taft.
Taft has a previous history of burglary and was convicted of burglary in the second degree on 10/29/2020 in Dakota County in Minnesota, according to a court file.
Taft was charged with Felony Theft (Over $500 up to $1,000) (Prior Conviction), which comes with a 0-5 year sentence and/or a fine of $3,000 to $10,000.
