SAVAGE and BURNSVILLE, MINNESOTA - The Minnesota Department of Transportation (MnDOT) will host a public in-person meeting on Thursday, Nov. 21, to discuss the Highway 13 improvement project in Savage and Burnsville. This event, scheduled from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. at the Burnsville City Hall Council Chambers (100 Civic Center Parkway), will provide residents with an overview of the proposed enhancements to the highway corridor. A brief presentation is set for 5 p.m., after which MnDOT staff and representatives from city and county offices will be available to answer questions and provide additional project information.

The Highway 13 improvement project, expected to begin in spring 2027 and conclude by fall 2028, involves extensive reconstruction from Quentin Avenue in Savage to Nicollet Avenue in Burnsville. Key intersections along this stretch—including Quentin, Lynn, Chowen, Washburn, and Nicollet Avenues—will see upgrades to improve connectivity and ease congestion. MnDOT is working in partnership with the cities of Savage and Burnsville, as well as Scott and Dakota counties, to ensure the project meets the needs of local residents and businesses.

Addressing Longstanding Needs

According to MnDOT, Highway 13, which functions as a major east-west connector between Highway 169 and I-35W along the Minnesota River, has long been studied to address increasing transportation demands. As the primary route for local industries, including access to the Ports of Savage, the corridor is vital in supporting economic activity across the Twin Cities metro area. Feedback collected from residents and local businesses revealed a desire for reduced traffic delays, safer pedestrian pathways, and improved truck access to local industrial areas, particularly near the Dakota Avenue intersection.

This project aims to meet those needs by enhancing traffic flow, reducing congestion, improving sidewalks and pedestrian crossings, and creating better connections to local streets. MnDOT’s goal is to develop a long-term solution that will benefit the community for years to come.

Accessibility and Accommodations

Individuals requiring ASL, foreign language interpretation, or other reasonable accommodations are encouraged to contact Janet Miller at 651-366-4720 or via email at ADArequest.dot@state.mn.us at least one week before the event.
