Grass Fire Reported in Hastings, MN: Mutual Aid Called in to Control Blaze

HASTINGS, MINNESOTA—Around 1:20 PM today, Dakota County Dispatch received a call about a grass fire that the caller had reportedly started and had gotten out of control. The fire was initially reported to be about 40 square feet and was in the 12000 block of Point Douglas Drive in Hastings, Minnesota.

Following the Hastings Fire Chief's initial size-up, mutual aid was called in from the Miesville Fire, including a brush truck, tender, and RTV, and Cottage Grove Fire for a brush truck at around 1:25 PM. Around 1:40 PM, the Hastings command requested one additional brush truck be started from Prescott Fire. Fire Crews were able to get the fire under control by around 2:16 PM. Per scanner traffic, the fire sounded to be out by around 2:50 PM, but crews remained on the scene as they were working on hot spots.

The National Weather Service in the Twin Cities issued a Special Weather Statement for the Twin Cities Metro until 6 PM this evening for elevated fire conditions between noon and 6 PM today (Wednesday, March 6, 2024). Sustained winds around 15 to 20 mph, with gusts up to 30 mph and relative humidity levels between 25% to 30%, could cause fires that develop to spread quickly.

We will contact the Hastings Fire Department for more information on this fire, including the total estimated acreage.
