Man caught after stealing gun and ammo from Burnsville gun store

BURNSVILLE, MINNESOTA - Around 12:30 PM in the afternoon on Tuesday, May 30, 2023, Burnsville Police Officers were called out to the area of Egan Drive and Burnsville Parkway for a reported theft from The Modern Sportsman gun store located at the 3500 block of County Road 42 in Burnsville, Minnesota. Witnesses said a male subject was seen running from The Modern Sportsman gun shop after stealing a gun and ammo from the gun store.
Witnesses to the incident reported that there were employees of the business chasing after the subject who stole the gun and bullets. According to witnesses, the suspect ran across County Road 42 and through the property of the Data Center. The employees continued to chase him and were able to apprehend the subject near Sunset Pond off West Preserve Blvd. The employees then brought the subject back to the main road where they detained him until police arrived on the scene to officially take him into custody.
The suspect reportedly threw the gun when he was running from the shop with witnesses reporting they might have seen him throw the gun into or near the pond. After a brief search, police were able to find the weapon in the grass next to Data Sales. Officers on the scene of the incident were able to confirm for us that were was a theft from The Modern Sportsman gun shop and that the subject in the incident was detained and brought into custody. They also were able to confirm that the gun was found and is secure. An investigation into the incident is ongoing.
