UPDATED: Fatal Accident on Hwy 56 in Randolph, MN

RANDOLPH, MINNESOTA - Dakota County Sherriff Joe Leko released a statement late this morning about a fatal accident in the City of Randolph, Minnesota.
According to the press release, around 8 AM this morning, Wednesday, November 29, 2023, the Dakota County Sheriff's Office and Minnesota State Patrol responded to an accident on Highway 56 near Dakota County Road 88. A 17-year-old driver and the vehicle's lone occupant was traveling north on Highway 56 near Dakota County Road 88 when his vehicle left the roadway and rolled. He was ejected from the car during the rollover and was pronounced deceased at the scene of the accident.
Officials have identified the 17-year-old driver as Tayven Geiger of Cannon Falls, Minnesota. According to the Minnesota State Patrol, the roads were snow-covered and icy at the time of the accident, and Mr. Geiger was not wearing a seat belt when he was thrown from his truck.
A fundraiser was set up by HTP Sports Academy to help raise money for the Geiger family in this difficult time. Tayven was a senior at Randolph High School with a passion for baseball.
The Minnesota State Patrol is currently leading the investigation into the accident, and no further information will be released. According to the Minnesota Department of Transportation, Highway 56 remains closed between Sciota Trail and 292nd Street East in Randolph, Minnesota, and is said to remain closed until at least 1 PM. They recommend to use a detour when possible.
