Edina Police Alert Residents of a Burglary Spree

EDINA, MINNESOTA - The Edina Police Department is cautioning residents about recent burglaries over the past few months in Edina, Minnesota, and the Twin Cities Metro, which are believed to have been carried out by one or more organized groups.

Police say they believe affluent neighborhoods are being targeted. It is believed that the suspects are not choosing houses at random but are instead watching the homes carefully before burglarizing them. Police say the suspects are stealing high-end merchandise, safes, and jewelry and are going into unoccupied houses. At this time, police believe that the burglars are not violent. Police say that in some recent burglaries, video surveillance and evidence left at the scenes show a suspect riding to and from the location on a bicycle, likely to avoid detection. Still, they said there is likely a get-away vehicle nearby.

In a post on the Edina Police Department's Facebook Page, police gave a few tips to help protect homes and belongings, including installing security alarms and always setting them when leaving your home. If possible, have your alarm monitoring company contact the police immediately and not attempt to contact you first. Install security cameras and lights outside your home and keep them on at night. Install security cameras that you can monitor through your cell phone. Make sure all doors and windows are locked when leaving your home. Leave on a few lights in your home to make it look like someone is home when you are not.

Last but not least, the police said to fill out the House Watch Request form (https://bit.ly/3Uq0Mt9) to notify Edina dispatch when you are leaving your home for an extended period of time. Officers will check in on your property periodically for any suspicious activity.‘Or whatever city you live in if they have this program available.' Also, let your neighbors know you will be gone for an extended period.
