UPDATED: Man Arrested in Eagan After Hours-Long Standoff Over Domestic Assault Incident

EAGAN, MINNESOTA —A 24-year-old man was taken into custody Wednesday evening following a standoff with Eagan police after allegedly assaulting his father and threatening him with a knife. Isaac Alexander Bouchie-Maze of Eagan has been charged with multiple offenses, including felony threats of violence with the intent to terrorize, in connection with the incident.
The incident occurred around 4:59 p.m. on November 6, 2024, at the family’s residence on the 1800 block of Covington Lane. According to a statement from the Eagan Police Department, officers were called to the home after Maze’s father reported being assaulted and threatened. According to the criminal complaint from the Dakota County Attorney’s Office, the father, who has not been identified, told officers that Maze had punched him in the chest without provocation when he returned home. After the altercation, Maze allegedly went inside, returned with a chef knife, and menacingly advanced toward his father.
Fearing for his safety, the father left the scene and contacted the police. Officers arrived shortly after that, where they began attempting to communicate with Maze. Maze reportedly admitted over the phone to wielding the knife during the confrontation and expressed a reluctance to comply with officers, stating the issue was a personal matter between him and his father. After locating Maze in a wooded area behind the residence, officers spent over two hours negotiating for his surrender. Maze continued to refuse compliance, allegedly threatening to fight with officers if approached. Police ultimately deployed a pepper ball gun, which prompted Maze to surrender and end the standoff at around 7:37 p.m. Maze was arrested without further incident.
Court documents indicate that Maze reportedly followed his father outside after the altercation, carrying the knife in a manner that his father interpreted as a direct threat. Maze allegedly told officers that he had intended to provoke a police response, and he initially resisted attempts to resolve the situation peacefully.
Maze was originally charged with felony 2nd-degree assault with a weapon and a gross misdemeanor domestic assault, but he is now facing a felony charge for threats of violence with the intent to terrorize, which carries a potential sentence of up to five years in prison and fines ranging from $3,000 to $10,000. His bond is set at $50,000 without conditions and $40,000 with conditions. He has not posted bail, and he remains in Dakota County Jail.
