Burnsville Police Respond to Disturbance Involving Axe; No Threat Found
BURNSVILLE, MINNESOTA - On the evening of Friday, September 6, 2024, Burnsville police officers responded to a report of a disturbance involving a possible armed individual in the 13400 block of Aldrich Avenue South. The call received around 9:14 PM, suggested that someone at the residence might have been under the influence of drugs, was in possession of an axe, and had allegedly threatened the caller.
Due to the severity of the situation and the uncertainty surrounding the threat, officers treated the report as an active danger. Upon arriving at the scene, police were informed that the suspected individual had fled out the back of the residence, still armed with the axe. Officers quickly set up a perimeter to contain the situation and minimize potential risks to the public.
As law enforcement established the perimeter, officers spoke with the caller, who seemed increasingly unsure whether the suspect was still inside the residence. In response to the ambiguity and potential danger, officers entered the home to conduct a thorough search. As they progressed through the property, officers reached a locked room, which they believed might contain the suspect. They waited for a drone to assist in safely clearing the room. While the search inside continued, officers conversed further with the caller. As the interaction unfolded, the caller’s account began to shift. It became apparent that the reporting party might have been under the influence and had not been directly threatened but was upset with the other individual in the home.
A drone was also deployed to scan the surrounding area, searching for any signs of the suspect or immediate threat. After no heat signatures were detected and no evidence of danger was found, law enforcement concluded that the situation posed no active threat. The perimeter was subsequently taken down. Police confirmed that no threats had been made toward the caller, and no crime had occurred. Though the caller appeared to be under the influence, they were able to provide their personal information, along with the correct date and time. Officers ultimately determined that the caller was not a danger to themselves or others in the residence.
Upon further investigation, police discovered that no individual matching the name provided by the caller was located in the area. The Burnsville Police Department has closed the case, with no charges filed.
