Four Arrested Following Three Separate Store Thefts in Apple Valley
APPLE VALLEY, MINNESOTA—Apple Valley, MN – June 2024 – Four individuals face various charges following a series of thefts in Apple Valley, Dakota County, Minnesota. The defendants, identified as Julie Elizabeth Gaines, Omar Ahmed Husseen, Kenneth Owen Machen, and Aaron Matthew Million, were apprehended in connection with separate incidents involving stolen merchandise.
Julie Elizabeth Gaines
50-year-old Julie Elizabeth Gaines is charged with two offenses stemming from a theft incident at the Walmart on 150th Avenue in Apple Valley, Minnesota, on June 9, 2024. Gaines faces one felony count of Controlled Substance Crime in the 5th Degree (Possession) and one misdemeanor count of Theft ($500 or Less).

Incident Details:
On June 9, 2024, at approximately 7:45 p.m., officers were dispatched to a theft in progress at the Super Walmart on 150th Avenue in Apple Valley, Minnesota. The criminal complaint states that Gaines, wearing a gray hoodie and red shorts and carrying a black backpack, had reportedly stolen approximately $80 worth of merchandise. The merchandise was three pairs of swim trunks. When she was confronted at the door, and after passing any point of sale, she dropped the merchandise and left on foot. She was apprehended while leaving the area by law enforcement. A search of Gaines revealed five pills labeled “M 30” in her shorts pocket, which were identified as Oxycodone Hydrochloride, a Schedule II controlled substance. It was later determined that the total value of the stolen merchandise was $62.92.
Omar Ahmed Husseen
27-year-old Omar Ahmed Husseen is charged with a felony for Theft (Over $1,000 up to $5,000) after an incident on June 8, 2024, where Husseen reportedly stole several perfume products from the Ulta store on 153rd Street in Apple Valley, Minnesota.

Incident Details:
According to the criminal complaint, on June 8, 2024, Husseen entered the Ulta store, filled a basket with expensive perfume products valued at $1,617.00, and ran out of the store without paying. Shortly after that, law enforcement reportedly apprehended him, walking along a busy street still carrying the basket full of stolen items.
Kenneth Owen Machen, Aaron Matthew Million, and one Juvenile Suspect
20-year-old Kenneth Owen Machen and 20-year-old Aaron Matthew Million are both facing charges of felony Theft (Over $1,000 up to $5,000) for their involvement in a theft on June 8, 2024 at the Kohl’s located off of Florence Trail in Apple Valley, Minnesota. We do not have any information regarding the juvenile suspect at this time.

Incident Details:
According to the criminal complaint, Machen, Million, and another juvenile accomplice reportedly took several items while in the store, left without paying for them, and fled in a vehicle. Employees provided law enforcement with a description of the vehicle they fled in. Officers reportedly stopped the vehicle nearby with the three suspects still in it. While searching the vehicle, law enforcement found the stolen items with loss-prevention devices still attached to them. The merchandise was valued at $1,903.50 from a retail store.
Matthew Million
Court records show that Million was convicted in March 2023 of 1st-degree Felony Aid/Abet Aggravated Robbery in connection with an incident in Minneapolis, Minnesota, in December 2021. Court records also showed that this sentence was a concurrent sentence related to two other incidents of felony receiving stolen property in Minneapolis, Minnesota, in March 2022 and August 2022. According to court records, both were car theft incidents. The overall sentence was 41 months.
Court records additionally show that Millions was assigned to work release on March 12, 2024. According to the Minnesota Department of Corrections, people are eligible for work release during the last 12 months before their supervised release date. They are supposed to help people returning to the community by preparing them for a successful, crime-free life.
All defendants have been formally charged. The public is reminded that all suspects are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
