Apple Valley Accepting Applications For Planning Commission and Parks Committee Vacancies
APPLE VALLEY, MINNESOTA - During the Apple Valley City Council Meeting on February 22, 2024, it was announced that the City will be extending the deadline for applications for the vacancy on the Apple Valley Planning Commission until March 15, 2024.
The vacancy on the Apple Valley Planning Commission is a three-year term that expires on March 1, 2026. The Planning Commission comprises seven members investigating planning and land use issues on behalf of the City Council for Apple Valley, Minnesota. According to the updated post on the City's website, the Planning Commission discusses and evaluates development and proposals, conditional use permit applications, variance requests, proposed Comprehensive Plan or zoning map changes, and any related planning issues. The Planning Commission meets on the first and third Wednesdays of the month at 7 PM in the Municipal Center.
City Councilmember Tom Melander, who served on the Planning Commission for several years, stated it is a very interesting and fulfilling position concerning land use in the City of Apple Valley. He stated at the meeting that there remains a fair amount of development left for the future of the City that will continue to bring stimulating opportunities for anyone interested in applying for the position. He said for anyone on the fence about applying, he would highly recommend it!

Parks and Rec Advisory Committee Vacancy
Like the Planning Commission, the Parks and Rec Advisory Committee also has a three-year term vacancy expiring on March 1, 2027. This Advisory Committee also has seven members who advise the City Council on the planning and development of parks, trails, and open space. These include, but aren't limited to, zoning amendment requests or proposed housing developments that may affect City Parks or park and trail needs and park development bond issues. Additionally, this Committee serves as the initial forum for all citizen concerns related to the City's park and trail systems. The Parks and Rec Advisory Committee meets at the Municipal Center on the first Thursday in January, March, May, September, and November at 7 PM.
