Taylor Swift's Midnight Mayhem
If you were one of the thousands of people attempting to secure your Taylor Swift Eras Tour pre-sale tickets today after getting verified to get tickets, you were likely met with an over 5-hour wait in a queue with over 2000+ people. To even get to this point, you first had to signup to be selected as a verified fan. If you were selected, Ticketmaster would send you a validation code which you would then use to unlock access to the presale tickets once you are past the queue.
At around noon on November 15th, Ticketmaster posted a statement saying they were not expecting the “historically unprecedented demand [for tickets].” For many, the idea they weren’t expecting this amount of traffic was laughable and absolutely frustrating. You can see the full afternoon statement from Ticketmaster below. Due to the demand on their site, Ticketmaster even had to push back the West Coast ticket windows for pre-sale tickets so their website wouldn’t crash.
After waiting for several hours in the queue, you would finally get the chance to enter your verification code to access the Ticketmaster site. It was at this point many were once again met with more frustration. Many reported selecting their max ticket limit, or even the minimum ticket limit in some cases, going to check out and then receiving an error message similar to the one pictured below. Several people reported that no matter what seat they picked, whether it was cheap tickets or expensive ones, they would get the same error no matter what. After so many attempts of attempting to gain your tickets, you would eventually time out and get ticketed back to the end of the 2000+ person queue to begin your wait all over again.
In the last update from the company so far today, Ticketmaster stated they were going to move the presale window for the Capital One Cardholders to the following day, Wednesday, November 16th in order to “provide a smooth experience for cardholders.” The uproar and frustration from Taylor Swift fans definitely didn’t go unnoticed as Ticketmaster and Taylor Swift were trending at #1 on Twitter this afternoon which you can see in this Tweet from Alex Palmer.
Many are still reporting they are still running into issues with the whole process as of 6 PM on Tuesday, November 15th, or by the time they got back in to get their tickets after being booted out and having to wait again in the queue that the venue was even sold out.
